Weekend Round‑Up – Clwb Hoci Eirias

Under clear skies, rising temperatures, and with the season rapidly drawing to a close, Clwb Hoci Eirias sides were back in action across the leagues, delivering a mix of emphatic wins, hard‑fought battles, and lessons learned. From clinical finishing and resilient defending to moments of chaos, comedy, and commitment, it was another weekend that summed up exactly what Eirias hockey is all about.

Women’s 1

Eirias Women’s 1 continued their strong home form with a deserved 3–1 victory over Brooklands‑Poynton 2s in the sunshine at Eirias. Steph set the tone early, finding the net twice in the opening ten minutes with sharp, confident finishing to put Eirias firmly in control. After regrouping at half time, Ali added a third early in the second half to extend the lead, before Brooklands pushed back and earned a late consolation following sustained pressure and several penalty corners that were otherwise well managed by the Eirias defence. A composed, attacking performance saw Eirias comfortably see out the game, with Steph deservedly taking Player of the Match for her goals and relentless work rate.

Women’s 2

Women’s 2 suffered their first defeat of the season in a closely contested 2–1 loss away to Mossley Hill 1s, despite a performance full of effort and quality. After conceding early from a penalty corner, Eirias responded superbly through Ella, who showed great pace and composure to equalise just before half time. The second half saw Eirias enjoy strong spells of pressure and create numerous chances, but Mossley Hill struck again from another well‑worked corner to edge ahead. Despite the result, the team can be immensely proud of a brilliant season, and special recognition goes to Nell, who played her final game for the club before heading to university, leaving behind a legacy of outstanding performances between the posts.

Men’s 1

Men’s 1 endured a tough afternoon away at Brooklands MU, falling to an 8–0 defeat in sweltering conditions that tested legs, concentration, and morale from the outset. Despite moments of individual flair, hard running, and a handful of memorable (and questionable) incidents that will live long in club folklore, Brooklands’ pace and directness proved relentless across both halves. There were flashes of resilience and effort throughout the side, with Dylan standing out to earn Man of the Match, but ultimately it was a humbling result that the team will look to learn from as the season concludes.

Men’s 2

Men’s 2 experienced a weekend of contrasts, starting with a lively 1–1 draw against Birkenhead, where Neil Baldwin finished well at the back post after strong team play, and Mike Roberts delivered an outstanding all‑round performance to earn Man of the Match honours. That game also saw memorable moments of chaos, commitment, and comedy – including a self‑inflicted disciplinary punishment that resulted in a match report being written under duress. The second fixture, a narrow 3–2 loss away to Liverpool Sefton 1s, was another competitive outing that underlined the squad’s fighting spirit, with strong contributions across the pitch and plenty of positives to take despite the result.

Men’s 3

Men’s 3 put in a spirited and disciplined performance away at Bebington, narrowly losing 3–1 in a match that was far closer than the scoreline suggests. After conceding in the first half, Eirias stayed composed, with Rob producing a series of excellent saves and the defence working tirelessly to stay in the contest. Sustained pressure finally paid off early in the second half when Alfie showed great determination to grab a deserved equaliser, but Bebington responded with two quick goals to seal the result. Despite some “creative” umpiring decisions, Eirias left with heads held high after a strong team performance, with Ben H earning Man of the Match for his tireless defensive work.

Men’s 4

Men’s 4 delivered another hugely encouraging performance despite a 2–0 defeat at home to promotion‑chasing Neston Development. After conceding twice in the first half, Eirias responded superbly following the break, showing intensity, composure, and some of their best attacking hockey of the season. Wave after wave of pressure, multiple penalty corners, and excellent link‑up play forced a series of smart saves from the Neston goalkeeper, but the breakthrough just wouldn’t come. Although the result didn’t reflect the balance of play, the performance showcased how far the team has progressed this season, with Osian deservedly named Player of the Match for his all‑round influence.
